Distribution : Throughout south India and Assam hills The plant : A small tree or a large shrub with whitish bark; leaves 3-foliate,
alternate, crowded at the ends of branchlets, pubescent, leaflets 5–12.5 cm long, ovate or elliptic, acute or acuminate, serrate-dentate, more or less hairy on both surfaces; flowers small, white in fascicles, on spicate axillary racemes, stamens 8, inserted on the receptacle
inside the disc; fruits smooth, globose, red when ripe. Parts used : whole plant Properties and uses : The plant is astringent, bitter, sweet, anti
inflammatory, vulnerary, digestive, carminative and constipating. It is useful in bone fractures, dislocations, inflammations, ulcers, wounds, dyspepsia, anorexia and diarrhoea. The fruits are sweet, cooling and nourishing tonic.
